Stony Brook University Digital Content Manager in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field. Three years of full-time, day-to-day work experience in a communications, design, marketing, social media, or public relations capacity. Experience using a content management system and working knowledge of HTML/CSS to create and manage websites. Fundamental understanding of SEO, website analytics, social media metrics, and how to use data to make informed content decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience with graphics/digital imaging software such as Adobe Creative Suite. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field. Experience using an analytics dashboard to inform content strategy. Familiarity with OmniUpdate CMS, Slate CRM, and Figma. Photography and/or video production experience. Demonstrated ability to create visual and written content on digital platforms (websites, social media, and marketing emails). Ability to work collaboratively across organizational lines. Brief Description of Duties:
As part of the Marketing and Communications team of the Continuing, Professional, and Executive Education (CP & EE) unit, the Digital Content Manager will create web pages, social media posts, emails, and other online content to serve the strategic communication goals of the unit and its programs, which include online graduate programs, Accelerated College Education (ACE), Pre-College Summer, Teacher & Leader Education, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), among others. This role requires a dynamic individual with a keen eye for detail, superb written and visual communication skills, strong technical skills, and a passion for delivering engaging content to diverse audiences. The successful incumbent will be a highly motivated self-starter who can comfortably work on multiple projects in a rapidly changing environment. The Digital Content Manager will report to CP&EE's Communications Director and will work closely with CP&EE's Director of Marketing to develop strategies for communicating key messages to intended audiences. The incumbent will also regularly interact with internal clients, faculty, staff, and external audiences. Duties:

  • Website Management:
    • Use the University's content management system (OmniUpdate/Modern Campus) to create and maintain CP & EE websites using templates and design snippets. Troubleshoot or customize websites as necessary using basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders and the CP & EE Marketing and Communications team to develop strategies that enhance user experience and achieve organizational goals.
    • Manage digital assets and create templates to ensure design consistency and the efficient creation of new pages.
    • Ensure that web pages are accurate, accessible, up-to-date, and aligned with their intended purpose.
    • Use data analytics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies and tactics.
  • Content Creation:
    • Develop and produce written and visual content that tells the CP&EE story, identifying the appropriate channels and format for intended audiences.
    • Collaborate with program directors and subject matter experts to generate new content and ensure existing content is accurate and relevant.
    • Ensure all content is accessible and aligns with the University's branding and editorial style guidelines.
    • Create or source high-quality images, graphics, or videos to complement written content.
    • Implement SEO best practices to increase website visibility and drive organic traffic.
  • Social Media Management:
    • Work with the Communications Director to develop and execute social media strategies to engage our audiences, promote CP & EE initiatives, and support the University's communications efforts.
    • Monitor social media analytics to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Digital Marketing:
    • Assist the Marketing Manager in strategizing and developing content for marketing campaigns.
    • Support digital marketing strategies by using analytics and configuration tools (Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Siteimprove, and Conductor).
  • Collaboration:
    • Work on integrated marketing and communications projects with the Communications Director, the Director of Marketing, and program directors to support all of CP&EE's programs and initiatives.
    • Work with the University MarCom web team, IT department, or hosting company on technical issues and customizations.
  • Email Marketing Campaigns:
    • Create content for email marketing campaigns to promote CP&EE's initiatives.
    • Design responsive, visually appealing email templates using Slate, Constant Contact, or other email platforms.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.Resume/CV and cover letter should be included with the online application.
