Function of Position:
Advisors play a critical role in student retention, persistence, and success. Major responsibilities include providing educational guidance and assistance to students by offering a wide range of educational planning services, including academic advisement; exploring transfer opportunities; making appropriate career decisions; and helping students utilize college resources, and understand college policies. As a primary point of contact for students, advisors are expected to maintain regular presence at the College and provide accessible options for meeting with students. This position reports to the Director of Advisement and Transfer Services and requires working occasional evenings and Saturdays.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Functions:
Provide advising to new, transfer, and returning students, including assistance with course selection, registration and navigating other college resources
Assist students with setting educational and career goals and provide options to achieve these goals
Provide individual advising appointments for students within assigned School or specialty
Assist students with developing a plan for degree completion by evaluating degree audits that compare the degree requirements with the student's academic record
Help students understand and prepare for the competitive health-related admission process
Help students identify and address barriers to their education
Advise students on transfer pathways and strategies, including transferability of credit and completion of college applications
Evaluate and interpret high school and college transcripts as needed
Collaborate with appropriate Specialists to promote the academic and personal development of students
Maintain a high level of expertise in programs and pathways for assigned School/area of specialty
Assist students with navigating the network of college support services
Maintain detailed student records and notes, including thorough documentation of advising sessions
Monitor ad respond to student inquiries, such as emails and phone calls within a reasonable timeframe
Secondary Functions:
Interpret college policies and procedures for students, faculty, and staff
Participate in events outside of regular college hours, such as advisement events and open houses
Knowledge of and adherence to FERPA guidelines
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Earned Associate's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience working with diverse populations
Strong computer skills including MS Office, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution
Experience with BANNER
One to three years of higher education experience or customer service experience in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of and adherence to FERPA guidelines
Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $45,000 to $46,429 and is based on these mentioned factors.
