UPMC Research Principal Sr | Glausier Lab in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This position is in the laboratory of Jill Glausier, PhD, which is part of the Translational Neuroscience Program in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. The lab’s team conducts research to increase our understanding of the ultrastructural correlates of altered synaptic signaling in individuals with brain disorders. The Research Principal Sr will provide advanced level research and/or clinical and administrative support to the study. They will also mentor, train, & assist with supervising junior research staff.

This position is grant funded.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor, train, and assist with supervising junior research staff.

  • Provide advanced level research and/or clinical and administrative support for the research study including preparing and presenting presentations, analyzing and interpreting data, collaborating with principal investigator on manuscripts, scientific articles, and grant submissions.

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Conduct molecular and histological experiments.

  • Oversee lab organization, assist with recruitment and staff supervision, and help to plan, coordinate and supervise research projects and lab experiments/procedures.

  • Oversee operation and administration of volume electron microscopy instrumentation.

  • Collect and analyze data and prepare results for publication.

  • Masters degree required preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology, or related research field with a minimum of three years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.

OR

  • PHD in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology, or related research field with a minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.

  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.

  • Working knowledge of research methodology required.

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
