About Indiana Women's Prison:

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Indiana Women’s Prison promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. We strive to model best Correctional practices, return productive citizens to our communities, and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism. The Indiana Women’s Prison is maximum security Correctional facility for adult females. The Indiana Women’s Prison is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Indiana Women’s Prison houses special populations of female incarcerated individuals in the state, including pregnant, sick, mentally ill, youthful, elderly, and high-profile incarcerated individuals. The facility includes the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit, which encourages the preservation of family by allowing incarcerated mothers to stay with their children and offering education and resources to support successful re-entry. The facility also offers resources and treatment geared toward mental health, substance use and domestic abuse, along with multiple educational opportunities. The goal is that through treatment and rehabilitation geared toward everyone, the facility will help prepare incarcerated women to re-enter their community with more skills and confidence than when they arrived.

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Assist with the planning, coordination, development, performance, and evaluation of the training programs for the Department, including researching, designing, developing, and executing strategies to achieve agency purpose, goals, and objectives

  • Coordinate, develop, and instruct training programs as needed at regional training locations and facilities throughout the State.

  • Assist with evaluating proposed and existing staff training content and delivery strategies to ensure current policies, procedures, standards, and best practices are incorporated

  • Monitor, test, and ensure the integrity of the PeopleSoft Training Module and Enterprise Learning Management system and provides functional and technical support as required.

  • Assist with efforts to develop department web-based training solutions for compliance training

  • Conduct Orientation, In-Service, On the Job Training or Academy instruction for all staff

  • Test, measure, and evaluate trainee performance and make recommendation on retention or working status

  • Prepare and distribute surveys and questionnaires used as data reference for Training Needs Assessment

  • Ensure that all training programs, procedures, methods, and standards are in compliance with ACA standards.

  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.

  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Expert knowledge of adult training and educational theories, methods, principles, practices, techniques, and assessment tools.

  • Thorough knowledge of available national, state, local resources to include the American Correctional Association, National Institute of Corrections, Bureau of Justice Statistics – Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, etc.

  • Considerable knowledge of theories, principles, practices, laws, rules, and regulations in the field of Corrections.

  • Ability to conduct research and remain abreast of new developments in correctional training.

  • Ability to travel within the state.

  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.

  • Ability to abide by the Departments Standards of Conduct.

  • Ability to adhere to agency dress code and/or grooming standards.

  • Ability to work within a culturally diversified environment.

  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.

  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
