R&M Consultants, Inc. Staff Civil Engineer- Surface Transportation in Anchorage, Alaska

Staff Civil Engineer - Surface Transportation *In a Nutshell RandM is looking for a team-oriented civil engineer to support our surface transportation group. As a member of the RandM team, the Staff Civil Engineer will participate in the planning, design, and development of transportation infrastructures projects throughout Alaska. Tasks include preconstruction site visits, writing engineering reports, designing, and modeling roadways, developing alternative design solutions and providing recommendations to unique project challenges, creating engineering drawings, performing engineering calculations, preparing engineers estimates and assembling those elements into construction bid document packages. Other responsibilities include sight visits during construction, submittal/shop drawing reviews, and reporting. This role requires periodic travel to rural Alaska project sites. This is an on-site position in Anchorage with occasional field work. The successful applicant will be expected to actively participate and represent RandM in professional organizations and community activities. The Staff Civil Engineer will receive guidance from the Surface Transportation Group Manager and will report directly to a Senior Project Engineer and Project Engineer with the opportunity to support other civil engineering group disciplines. *On Any Given Day On a typical day, the staff civil engineer will:**

  • Contribute to project development and proactively collaborate with other members of RandMs multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Work with the Senior and Project Engineers to resolve technical challenges while advancing project design development and delivery to the client.
  • Prepare technical figures, graphics, and renderings to support design team members, permitting agencies, public and client with advancing project development.
  • Prepare quality engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and construction cost estimates
  • Review engineering drawings, technical reports, and calculations prepared by design team members for correctness and accuracy.
  • Attend project meetings with clients, prepare meeting notes and memorandums

*Minimum Qualifications The position requires a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil Engineering. The successful candidate will have already passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (Engineer in Training Certification) or do so within sixth months of hire. Prior engineering work experience is preferable. Experience in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D are desirable. All candidates should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and be willing to work within a collaborative team environment.
